120 girls participate in Ice-Hockey basic coaching programme

LEH, JAN 13: Ten days basic Ice Hockey/Ice Skating coaching programme organized by Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation Leh concluded at Gophuks, Spituk Ice Hockey rink, in which 120 girls below the age of 18 years from all parts of Leh district participated. CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa was the chief guest while Avny Lavasa, DC, Leh was the guest of honour on the occasion. The objective of the programme was to promote winter sports in Leh.
During the coaching programme, trained ice hockey experts from Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation imparted training to the students in basic skating and hockey. On the concluding day, the students performed ice skating racing. An exhibition match between new trainees and SECMOL B team was also played followed by cultural performance.
While addressing the gathering, Dr. Sonam Dawa CEC, Leh said that he had taken up the issue of including ice hockey with the sports authority of India. He assured to allot a land for the construction of Ice Hockey rink for the LWIHF in Leh and also donated R1 lakh for the association.
Kunzes Angmo, President Ladakh Women Ice Hockey Foundation talked about the aims and objectives of LWIHF. Rinchen Lamo, nominated Councillor said that the administration and Hill Council needed to extend support for the women. She donated a sum of R1 lakh to LWIHF.
Avny Lavasa, DC Leh appreciated the initiative of LWIHF and said that ice hockey was very important for the engagement of youths in sports activity especially in winters.
A large number of locals and members of the organizing committee were also present on the occasion.
