Jammu, Jan 5: Jammu Police claimed to have arrested cross border narcotic smugglers and solved a burglary case.
“Police during a routine patrolling at a check point at Old Steel Bridge in Akhnoor on Thursday night stopped a car (JK21-0789), which was coming from Akhnoor towards Jammu,” S D Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu Zone told reporters here on Friday evening.
The top cop said that instead of stopping the vehicle, the driver tried to escape from the spot but alert police party chased and over powered the driver.
On questioning, the driver disclosed his name as Mohammad Rafiq, resident of Badori Raya and while the Co- Passenger as Som Nath alias Soma, resident of Fatehpur, Brahamna, R S Pura, he said.
The IGP said that during search of Mohammad Rafiq, one Packet of Heroin like Narcotic material which was stamped ‘Pak-Afghan Nanghar 8888’ in Urdu was recovered while one packet was recovered from the possession of Som Nath.
“They had hidden the narcotics in their jackets,” said the top cop adding that during interrogation, they revealed that there a nexus of cross border gang of Narcotics Smugglers is operational in the area and on their disclosure, three more arrests were made.
The arrested persons were identified as Jabar Singh alias Sunny, Jankar Singh alias Gosha and Raju Singh alias Raju, all residents of Dhar, Khour.
“Five more packets of heroin weighing one-kg each were also recovered from their possession making in total 7-Kg,” he added.
Singh further said that Gandhi Nagar robbery case has also been seized by the police with the arrest of four persons.
“On January 3 a complaint was lodged by one Akshay Gupta, resident of Laxmi Narayan Temple, Gandhi Nagar that on January 2, his father Vinod Gupta, owner M/S Fashion Fab located at Apsara Road, Gandhi Nagar was attacked with iron rod by some unknown persons and a bag containing cash was snatched,” he added.
A special team was constituted to solve the theft and case was registered, said the IGP.
He asserted that some suspects were rounded up and put to sustain questioning during which accused Kuldeep Raj alias Nikka, resident of Melowal, R.S. Pura, Jammu confessed his involvement in the crime.
He also disclosed the names of other associates who were identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Kali, Rajat Kumar and Rohit Kumar, all residents of Kotli Shah Doula, R S Pura.
“Weapon of offence and snatched cash worth Rs 38,000 was recovered from them,” he added and said that manhunt is launched to apprehend the absconding accused persons.
