JAMMU, DEC 29: A deputation of Kargil War Porters called on BJP leaders at Party headquarters and apprised them of the problems being faced by them.
The deputationists stated that they volunteered to help the Army and serve the nation at the time of national crisis. They demanded due recognition for the services rendered by them. They were accompanied by Th K P Singh, who raised a NGO ‘Tanda Tiger Force’ and led them to Udhampur for enrolment in Porter Companies raised by Northern Command in June-July 1999 for ‘Operation Vijay’. The porters helped army in its fight against Pakistani intruders in the Kargil Sector. Despite assurances by Army authorities, various leaders and Court judgments in their favour directing State Govt to provide them jobs for the services rendered for the nation, nothing has been done so far, they said adding only four ex-Porters have so far been given Govt jobs.
Carrying Unit Appreciation letters and the High Court verdict in their hands, they appealed to the BJP leaders to impress upon the senior leadership to consider their case with compassion and impress upon the Govt to provide them jobs. Col J P Singh (retired) accompanied the deputation.
They were patiently heard by the BJP leaders and assured full support in their struggle in getting jobs or compensation as a welfare measure.
