‘Dogri Manyata Diwas’ celebrated with zeal

JAMMU, DEC 25: Tawi Andolan (Namami Gange) observed ‘Dogri Manyata Diwas’ near statue of General Bikram Singh at Jammu today. Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta was the Chief Guest on the occasion while former Union Defence Minister, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta was the Special Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta lauded efforts of team ‘Tawi Andolan’ led by State Convener, Chander Mohan Sharma for bringing awareness among people about importance of rivers particularly Tawi which acts as a life-time for Jammuites. “Tawi is a sacred river and it should be our endeavour to keep it as clean as possible. Efforts are afoot to ensure that water from various nallahs are kept away from Tawi,” he added.
The function started with ‘Ganesh Vandana’ by members of Tawi Andolan and artists of State Information Department. Renowned Dogri writer, Shiv Mehta, who has been conferred with Sahitya Academy award was also felicitated by Prof Chaman Lal Gupta on the occasion. Prominent among others who were felicitated for their selfless services and promoting Dogri writings included Adv Hunar Gupta, Dr Ashok Gupta, Prof Usha Kiran, Dr Neelam Sareen, Purshotam Sharma, Purnima Sharma and Reena Slathia. Speaking on the occasion, Chander Mohan Sharma expressed gratitude towards participants for attending the programme and urged youth to use Dogri for their daily conversations.
