JAMMU, NOV 18: The secretary, Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, Wahid Rehman Parra released Press Club of Jammu’s (PCJ) document on sports as ‘Support for Sports’ at a function held here today.
Coined by a senior journalist and chairman of Sports Committee of PCJ, Vishal Bharti, the document ‘Support for Sports’ is first of its kind on sports ever in J&K. The document comprised of important points in which some additions or alterations can be done for the betterment of sports in J&K. Dress Code, Medical Health Centre, Rewards, Workshop or Seminars, Sports Library, Sports Museum, Exhibition, Cafeteria, Sport Goods Shop, Suggestion-cum-Complaint Box, ATMs, Sports Academy, Sports Calendar, Corporate Plans, National and International Exhibition Matches, Activities, Ground and Pension Scheme are some of the points raised and elaborated in the document.
Lauding the initiative taken by a senior journalist Vishal Bharti, who remained associated with sports for the last 18 years as a sports reporter in Jammu, Secretary, State Sport Council, Wahid Parra said that that Sports Council was now short of finances and resources, but the points highlighted in the document were valid and would be taken into consideration before implementation on the ground.
“We see that the points raised in the documents will be accommodated in the upcoming Sports Policy,” said Parra.
To counter the deadliest menace of terrorism and drugs, Parra said that there was a dire need to organize more and more sports activities in Kashmir. On pension policy of coaches and Sports Council employees, the secretary said that they had already initiated the process and would get fruitful results soon.
Meanwhile, Shiv Kumar Sharma, joint secretary of J&K Sports Council said that it was a good initiative by PCJ as the document had given an idea to the Council how to move forward. He also mentioned that it was the job of Council, which PCJ and senior journalist Vishal Bharti had done.
Talking on the sports document, Ashwani Kumar, president, Press Club of Jammu elaborated how the idea of document on sports came to the Sports Committee and a wonderful step had been taken for the betterment of sports. Ashwani said that he was very hopeful that a young secretary like Parra and even Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti would also take it seriously and implement the points on ground.
PCJ Secretary General, Zorawar Singh Jamwal while presenting the vote of thanks said that the conditions of sports as well as grounds were dismal and this document could give an idea to the government and Sports Council how to improve the sports activities and boost the morale of young players.
Earlier, Vishal Bharti also enumerated his points and shared his experiences with the sports and how he got an idea to write such a document.
Among those who were present on the dais also included Vice-President, PCJ Abhimanyu Sharma and Finance Secretary, Dinesh Manhotra while the Management Committee Members including Ajay Bachloo, Dinesh Mahajan, Nishikant Khajuria, Pawan Sharma, Surjeet Singh and Deepak Khajuria were also present on the occasion.
