Rajouri, Nov 12: In a major breakthrough police today busted bike lifters gang and arrested two persons including a teenager.
The accused were involved in thefts in the area in the past two months, police said.
“Acting on complaints received from locals about vehicles theft, a team was constituted and special drive was launched to nab the accused,” police said.
However, police team headed by In-charge Police Post Rajouri City, Danish Maqbool, DySP HQs Jaswant Singh and under overall supervision of SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas started investigation and on the basis of some clues, one stolen two wheeler was recovered from Litter Lassipora area of Pulwama district.
Police nabbed two persons including a teenager identified as Afraz Lone, resident of Ward No 12, Rajouri.
Another accused identified as Imtiaz Ahmed, resident of Sawari Mandir Gala, Kotranka, presently putting up at Panja Chowk, Rajouri was also arrested.
“Modus operandi of the accused was that after stealing motorbikes, they used to shift them to Kashmir Valley via Mughal Road and sell them by changing the registration number plates,” police added.
Pertinently, drug peddlers used to play as active tool for thieves in shifting the vehicles.
“Detention of accused will surely break down the pace of thefts in the town and we are hopeful of more arrests,” police added.
SSP Rajouri also directed SHOs and Incharge, Police Posts to expedite investigation process in theft of vehicles to apprehend the accuse dpersons.
Meanwhile a case under FIR no 443/2017 under section 379 has been registered and investigation started.
