Workshop on Wild Edible Plants organized

Jammu, Nov 11: Department of Botany, GCW, Parade Ground today organized one day workshop on “Wild Edible Plants” in collaboration with Department of Ecology and Remote Sensing, J&K. Workshop was inaugurated by Dr Hemla Agarwal, worthy Principal of the college. In her inaugural address she stressed upon the students to actively use these plant products instead of junk food and also spread awareness among the other students of the college. O. P. Sharma ‘Vidyarthi’, Director Department of Ecology and Remote Sensing J&K Govt. was the resource person on this occasion. Prof. Seema Kotwal HOD, Department of Botany presented the welcome address in which she highlighted the aims of the workshop to introduce alternative food resources to combat growing food scarcity and fight malnutrition, as per UN adopted sustainable Development goals 2 and 12. The resource person spoke at length about the importance of various alternative wild plant products, their botany, food value and medicinal importance. In the workshop different types of teas and food preparations using wild plants were displayed. Participating students were served the tea, pakodas, vegetables made from wild plant products to familiarize them with alternative plant resources. Dr Shallu Samyal, Prof. Ganjeet Singh, Dr Bachan Lal, Dr Anuradha Pandoh, Dr Anju Koul, M S Bharti, Ruhi Sharma and Sakshi Bhushan worked exhaustively to make this workshop a success.
