Jammu celebrates Gurupurab with festivity, prayers of peace

JAMMU: The winter capital of the state on Saturday celebrated festival of Gurupurab with enthusiasm and religious fervour amid prayers of peace.
The main function of Gurupurab was organised to celebrate Parkash Utrsav of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Gurdwara Yaadgar Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar.
Sikh Sangat in large participated in the celebrations.
People of all colors and creeds participated in which Ragi Jatha from Amritsar, Punjab and local Ragi Jathas participated and recited the Gurbani Kirtan and thrown light on the history of life and teaching of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The stage of Samagam was conducted by the General Secretary of District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu Avtar Singh Khalsa and Vote of thanks was presented by the President of the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu Jagjit Singh.
During the Samagam Chairman State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board, T S Wazir extended greetings to the people and expressed that “Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s universal message of love, compassion, equality, peace and brotherhood is not restricted to a particular caste, colour, creed, religion or region but transcends the barriers of time and space, thus making it relevant till eternity.”
However, reports from other districts also said that the Gurupurab was celebrated with festivity while ‘prasad’ was also distributed among the Sangat.
Prayers for peace and tranquillity were also offered by the devotees at different religious places.
Meanwhile administration had made elaborate arrangements while security was put in place for smooth conduct of celebrations.
