‘Article 370 is the nation’s commitment to people of J&K’

SRINAGAR: Reiterating her resolve to protect the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that Article 370 is the nation’s commitment to the people of J&K and therefore should be honoured.
The comment by Mufti, who heads the PDP-BJP coalition Government, comes four days after Supreme Court (SC) deferred by two months hearing on Article 35A which empowers Jammu and Kashmir legislature to define ‘permanent residents’ of the State.
“Article 370 is the nation’s commitment to the people of J&K and therefore should be honoured,” Mufti wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
She said that the country should take advantage of J&K’s geo-strategic location and revive its traditional routes to foster greater economic activity.
Asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has an unprecedented mandate and can create history by changing the narrative on J&K, the Chief Minister said that democracy is a battle of ideas and dialogue is the only way forward.
