5 drug peddlers arrested in Jammu

Jammu: Police on Wednesday arrested a drug peddler with contraband of ganja in city outskirts here.
“One notorious drug peddler namely Sunny Rao, resident of village Kattal, District Bhuwneshwer, Orissa, at present living in Gangyal, was this afternoon arrested from Qasim Nagar area of Bagh e Bahu,” police here said.
They said that during his search, 5-kg ganja was recovered, which was meant to be sold among the youth of the area.
However, a case under NDPS Act has been registered and investigation started.
Meanwhile four people have been arrested from Kulgam and Anantnag districts in south Kashmir and huge amount of contraband was seized from them, the police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, Kulgam police intercepted a scooter at Alstop Qazigund and seized 35 pouches of illicit liquor from Tariq Ahmad Bhat, a police spokesperson said.
Two persons — Ajaz Ahmad Sofi and Gulzar Ahmad Sofi –were arrested after 30 kg of poppy straw was seized from their vehicle intercepted at Qazigund market in the district, he said.
In Anantnag, Bilal Ahmad Saqa was arrested after 800 gm of cannabis was seized from him, the spokesperson said.
Cases have been lodged in all the incidents and investigations are underway, the official said.
