RAJOURI, OCT 17: Under the supervision of District Election Officer, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary a Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) awareness programme was organized today at Government Degree College, Sunderbani.
The programme was organized as a part of ongoing Special Summary Revision of electoral roll being organized under Election Commission of India’s SVEEP campaign to create awareness among young voters to enrol as voters w.e.f. 01-01-2018 as qualifying date.
Electoral Registration Officer, Nowshera AC, Kartar Singh, Principal GDC Sunderbani, Dr. Sangita Nagari, Nodal Officer SVEEP Rajouri, Waqar Talib, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, Vijay Kumar Sharma besides faculty members of GDC, students and sub-divisional officers attended the programme.
On the occasion, ERO, Nodal Officer SVEEP, Principal GDC and AERO spoke about the importance of voting and the ongoing special drive for the registration of left-out voters and persons in the age group of 18-21 years. Students were also educated about online registration facility launched by ECI besides information material regarding registration of voters was distributed among the students.
ERO Nowshera spoke at length about the role of SVEEP campaign in educating and motivating the electorate to exercise their right to vote. He said greater participation is key to stronger democracy and the main aim is to motivate potential voters for registration so as to increase voter turnout and one of the best way of this is to educate and aware students who will become most effective messengers.
On the occasion, students of GDC also spoke and threw light on the importance of active participation in democratic process.
Later, SVEEP pledge was also administered with participants resolving to contribute their bit to make democracy more vibrant.
On the occasion, a SVEEP Committee was also constituted comprising one student of each stream at the GDC to facilitate cent percent registration of eligible students.
