JAMMU, OCT 11: J&K National Panthers Party held an urgent meeting last evening at JKNPP headquarters, Gandhi Nagar and declared that October 17th and 18th will be observed has Martyrs Day in memory of 4 students’ leaders, who were killed in Police-firing in 1996 in Jammu on 17th and 18th October, 1996. The students, who achieved martyrdom during Congress Government in J&K included Brijmohan Singh, Subash Chandra, Gulshan Handa on October 17 inside GGM Science College, Jammu and Gurcharan Singh was at Kanak Mandi on October 18. The enquiry commission constituted under directions of Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India held Police guilty for the said incident.
This was informed by JKNPP Supremo, Prof Bhim Singh, while addressing a Press Conference here today.
Giving further details, Prof Singh informed that NPSU President, Virender Singh shall head the Committee of students and organize memorial meeting on 51st Martyrs Day. The NPP Committee shall also participate in the memorial meeting, he added.
Prof Singh further said, “JKNPP will also celebrate Accession Day on 27th October. Maharaja Hari Singh singed instrument of Accession on 26th October, 1947 which was accepted by the Governor General, Lord Mountbatten on 27th October, 1947. A Committee of 21 members will be constituted by Chairman JKNPP, Harsh Dev Singh and State President, Balwant Singh Mankotia which shall look-after all arrangements for celebrating Accession Day on October 27 in Jammu.”
