No compromise on country’s security: BJP

NEW DELHI, Sep 25: The BJP today sought to make its position clear on the vexed Rohingya immigration issue and said while the humanitarian issue remains a concern, the Government will not allow any ‘terror elements’ making entry under this garb.
Briefing reporters on the sidelines of BJP National Executive meet, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said it is the “humanitarian concern” that made the Modi Government to send relief materials, food and water packets.
In this context, he said, the Government’s stand is clear. While humanitarian issue is important but national security cannot be compromised, he said.
On September 9, India had urged Myanmar to handle the violence-hit Rakhine state with “restraint and maturity” and also maintained that India remains deeply concerned about the situation there.
“We would urge that the situation in Rakhine State be handled with restraint and maturity, focusing on the welfare of the civilian population alongside those of the security forces.
It is imperative that violence is ended and normalcy in the state restored expeditiously,” the statement further said. On September 6 Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that India shared Myanmar’s concerns over the Rakhine situation. (Agencies)
