SRINAGAR, SEP 21: The Senior Hockey Championship-2017, organized by Hockey J&K and sponsored by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, concluded here today with final match played between Hockey Club Shopian and Behram Shah Hocky Club Anantnag at Polo Ground, Hockey Field. The Behram Shah Hockey Club Anantnag won the final by 6-5 through a tie breaker.
As many as 12 hockey teams from Valley participated in the championship.
SSP Mohammad Yasin Kichloo was the Chief Guest while renowned national footballer Nazir Ahmad was the Guest of Honour.
After witnessing the final match, Kichloo said that hockey is flourishing in the State day by day, as a large number of youth is showing interest in Hockey. He further said that sports are essential for overall development of human persona. He emphasized upon the need for encouraging extra-curricular activities in the State for nurturing sporting talent from early age.
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Sports Officer, Youth Services and Sports Department, Nuzhat Ara said that by organizing such sports events, the talent of State youth would further be honed up enabling them to compete at National and International level. She said that by encouraging and organizing sports activities, talent of the youth would get properly channelized for better sportsmanship.
Later, the Chief Guest distributed trophies and mementos among players.
