3 arrested with poppy straw, opium in Jammu, Kathua

Jammu, Sep 16: Police today arrested three persons including a truck driver with contrabands of poppy straw and opium in two separate incidents in Jammu and Kathua districts of the state.
Police today achieved major success by seizing a huge consignment of 485 Kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) along with two suppliers, spokesman here said.
He said that during a routine checking at Circular Road in Panjthirthi area this afternoon, police signalled a truck to stop for checking.
“On seeing the police, the truck driver and helper tried to escape but arrested after a hot chase,” said the spokesman.
He said that during search of the vehicle, 485 Kgs of poppy straw was recovered and they both were arrested on the spot.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, police apprehended one drug peddler with opium (ganja).
“Patrolling team reacting swiftly on the spot near fruit mandi at Barmora, Ward Number 14, nabbed one Rohit Kumar, resident of Mohanpur, tehsil Karat, District Rohtas, Bihar and recovered 600 grams of Ganja from his possession,” police spokesman added.
He said that cases under NDPS Act are registered and investigation started.
