50-yr-old woman dies, school kids injured in accidents

Jammu, Sep 13: A woman was crushed to death by the State Road Transport Corporation while the driver was arrested in this winter capital of the state and six school students got injured in a separate incident in Ramban district.
“A woman identified as Neelam Lata Bhat, 50, an employee of PHE Department this morning was crushed to death when she was hit by a bus near KC Chowk while she was crossing the road,” police here said.
They said that she was rushed to the hospital but declared as brought dead.
“The woman had a fall while crossing the road and the bus coming from Jewel side, overran her thus leaving her in a pool of blood,” said an eyewitness.
The bus driver escaped from the spot but arrested later, police said. He was identified as Gurmeet Singh. A case under section 279, 304 of RPC have been registered under FIR number 76 of 2017.
Meanwhile in another incident, at least six school students got injured and van driver critically in head on collision of vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar highway in Batote area of Ramban district.
“A private school van carrying children this morning collided head on with a car coming from Srinagar near Batote,” police here said.
They said that the school students sustained minor injuries while the van driver suffered fracture in his leg.
“Kids were discharged after treatment but the van driver was hospitalised,” police said.
“We have arrested the car driver and case registered,” police added.
