Dr Rakesh elected to DCI, four to J&KDCI

Jammu, Sep 12: Elections for one post of Dental Council of India and four posts of State Dental Council were held for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
State Dental Tribunal came into existence in the year 1972.
First J&K State Dental Council was constituted in the year 2001 with nominated body and the nominated council had worked till 2017.
First in the history of State election process for the new Dental Council was notified in the month of July 2017.
Accordingly one post for Dental Council of India election was notified.
Returning officer for the election Inderjeet conducted the elections and declared the result on September 11, 2017.
Dr Rakesh Krishan Gupta, Professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics was declared elected by returning offer for one post of Dental Council of India.
Dr Gupta polled total of 246 votes. Total of 9 candidates contested for single position of DCI.
The following four candidates were declared elected for J&K State Dental Council.
Dr Bhupinder Singh polled 329, Dr Aayush Sharma 266, Dr Munish Gupta 232, Dr Adil R Malik 227.
Dr Ajay Gupta polled 227 votes but lost by draw of lots to Dr Adil R Malik.
Dr Rakesh Krishan Gupta, Professor and Head Indira Gandhi Government Dental College Jammu won the election in nine cornered contest spreading across the Jammu and Kashmir State.
Dr Gupta has thirty four years of experience in Dental profession since 1983 and is the senior most serving dental professional in J&K state.
He remained multiple time secretary, vice president and president of IDA Jammu between 1984-2006.
He has held maximum of Dental Conferences in the State including three days North Zone IDA Conference which was held for the first time in the history of J&K in the year 2006.
He was instrumental in convening the politicians and bureaucracy for opening Dental College of Jammu in the year 2004 during his tenure as secretary of IDA Jammu.
In creation of B grade posts in all districts and Deputy Director in detesting for both provinces, he has played a pivotal role.
At the moment he is the senior most professor head in Indira Gandhi Govt Dental College Jammu with vast experience of health services, field services, and dental department of Govt Medical College Jammu and presently in Indira Gandhi Govt Dental College Jammu. Dental Council of India member role is regulatory in term of BDS and MDS courses as well to courses facilities in Institutions and hospitals providing and improving dental care seeing his vast experience he well be best suited to take care in test of J&K State wherever Intervention is required upto the level of Dental Council of India.
Dr Javid Qanungo, state secretary IDA J&K, has welcomed the elections to the state dental council as he was one of the petitioner in the High Court of J&K to get the order for elections to this council.
Various dental associations from state and outside have congratulated the newly elected members to dental council.
