Army officers booked for hampering investigation in Banihal case

Jammu, Sep 2: An FIR has been lodged against Army officers for allegedly hampeing investigation in Banihal accident case in which two persons were killed and five others injured.
“An FIR has been lodged against the Army for “threatening officers on duty and interfering with investigation” into an accident involving an army vehicle that left two dead and five seriously injured,” police sources here today said.
They said an Army vehicle yesterday hit a passenger taxi coming from opposite direction at Chamalwas, Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar Highway, resulting in the death of two persons and injuries to five others.
“As police tried to arrest the driver and seize his vehicle, the Commanding Officer (CO) 12 RR accompanied by Major ranked officer reached the spot along with a number of soldiers and threatened the officers on duty,” police said.
“They took the accused driver and his vehicle with them and interfered into the investigation,” police sources added. They further said an FIR under Section 353 of RPC has been lodged against CO and the Major for further action.
