Govt failed to provide basic facilities to people: Congress

JAMMU, AUG 30: Congress held a protest demonstration against the State Govt for its utter failure to provide basic facilities to people of the State. A number of Congress activists led by PCC General Secretary, Vikram Malhotra, carrying pla-cards in their hands and raising slogans against State Government, assembled at Chowk Chabutra and marched towards Parade, where they staged a dharna in front of PDD Office.
Speaking on the occasion, Malhotra said that people are facing a lot of hardships due to long scheduled and unscheduled power-cuts and scarcity of drinking water. Despite non-availability of electricity, PDD authorities have increased rent many folds, which is beyond reach of a common man. In absence of electricity, drinking water supply has also been affected at a great extent, he added.
Referring to repeated terrorist attacks, Malhotra said that almost everyday jawans of Army, Police and para-military forces are being martyred in the State and militancy is on steep rise. “The State and Central Governments are confused and clueless about any policy against Pakistan. To divert attention of people from basic issues, a debate has been generated regarding scraping of Article 35-A,” he asserted.
Malhotra further said that Article 35-A is sub-judice and everybody should refrain from commenting on it. However, the state-subject laws, which were incorporated by the Late Maharaja Hari Singh in 1926, were introduced in interest of all three regions of the State, especially for Dogra community of Jammu.
