LEH, AUG 3: Two persons including a woman were killed while several others were injured when a bus they were travelling in overturned at Nimmey-Ralpa on Leh-Srinagar national highway this morning.
According to reports, a bus bearing registration number JK10-2497 was on its way from Leh to Domkhar village when it overturned near Nimmey Ralpa due to driver’s negligence and overloading.
The injured passengers were rushed to the SNM Hospital but two of them succumbed to their injuries. The condition of four injured is stated to be serious. According to eye witnesses, the bus was overloaded.
In this regard, a case FIR number 61/17 under Section 279, 337, 304-A RPC has been registered in Police Station Leh and investigation started.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo along with EC Agriculture Tsering Wangdus reached the hospital and enquired about the health of injured. He took a detailed report about the treatment and directed doctors to provide best available medical care to the injured.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives, CEC Dr Dawa said that it is the failure on part of authorities and Police who allowed the bus to ply overloaded with passengers. CEC directed Police to keep a strict vigil in implementing road safety measures and traffic regulations to avoid such incidents in future and appealed commuters to avoid travelling in overloaded vehicles.
The Deputy Commissioner, Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy G, SSP Leh Uday Bhaskar Billa, ADC Leh Moses Kunzang, Councilor Skurbuchan and Lamayuru also visted the hospital to inquire about the medial facilities being provided to the injured passengers.
Meanwhile, Member Parliament Ladakh Thupstan Chhewang, in a message, expressed deep condolence on the loss lives in the accident.
