Prof Mattoo briefs Dalai Lama about education scenario in J&K

LEH, JUL 28: Buddhist Spiritual leader Dalai Lama today said that India can play a significant role in bringing world peace.
While interacting with Advisor to Chief Minister Prof Amitabh Mattoo who called on him in Jivetsal, Choglamsar, Dalai Lama said modernisation in India has reached a great height and stressed on the need for revival of ancient knowledge along with modern education in order to revive inner peace.
Dalai Lama appreciated Prof Matoo’s initiative and stated that he was pleased to see the reforms initiated to improve the education scenario in the State.
During the conversation, Dalai Lama assured to extend his support and help through coordinated and collaborative efforts in achieving the vision of reforming education system in J&K state.
Prof Mattoo, who is heading a Working Group for improving education standard of J&K under ‘Knowledge Initiative’ briefed Dalai Lama about the steps taken by Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to improve the educational scenario of the State.
He sought suggestion and guidance from Dalai Lama to help them realize the dream of bringing educational reforms in the State.
Prof Mattoo informed him that Working Group has drafted a curriculum based on secular ethics education that would be purely an academic subject.
Meanwhile, Prof Amitabh Mattoo also convened a review meeting with district administration in Leh today.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commis-sioner, Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy G, SSP Leh Udayabaskar Billa and other district officers. The Advisor reviewed the developmental activities like power, health, education, tourism infrastructure and over all security scenarios in the district.
He expressed satisfaction over infrastructure facilities in government schools and high literacy rate in the district.
He said that the state government is committed to provide best quality education to children in all nock and corner of the state. Mattoo spoke high of the peace and communal harmony existed in Ladakh since ages that has been exemplary in the world and emphasised on the need to strengthen and continue it in future also.
He also appreciated the role of civil societies in Ladakh ensuring brotherhood and peace within every community.
He also applaud the honesty and dedication among the local district officers and urged them to maintain in it future with same spirit.
DC Leh apprised Prof Mattoo about the developmental activities being carried out in the district and raised the major issues and problems that include poor network and communication services of BSNL with special emphasis on internet services in Ladakh and shortage of man power in all government departments with lots of vacant posts that hampers their work efficiency.
SSP Leh also raised the issue regarding lack of police personnel in the district. Mattoo gave assurance to look into the problems and ensured to take it up with Chief Minister and other concerned Ministry for early redessal.
