Martyrs of State deserve ex-gratia with honour, not alms: Harsh

JAMMU, JUL 26: While paying rich tributes to martyrs of Kargil war on 18th anniversary of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, Chairman JKNPP, Harsh Dev Singh commemorated the supreme sacrifices of war-heroes, which led to the historic triumph of Indian Army over Pakistan in 1999. Harsh was addressing a Press Conference in Jammu today. Grieved over the State Government showing irreverence towards the martyrdom of officers and jawans of the State, Harsh Dev Singh lambasted the sinister alliance and BJP in particular, for being callous in announcing ex-gratia and compensation to families of martyrs belonging to J&K. He revealed that the brave hearts of other States were adequately conferred with ex-gratia to the tune of R 25 lakh to R 1 cr, as a token of respect and an acknowledgement of their valour, whereas J&K failed to show such gesture to the sons of the soil, who attained martyrdom including others, who sustained injuries for security and safety of people and the nation. He added that the State Government had been disparaging its martyrs right from the beginning with no ex-gratia been paid to Army Jawans besides other defense and security personnel, who sacrificed their lives while performing duties for the motherland. Strongly condemning the BJP-PDP Government’s despicable admission that the Government had no such policy of providing financial assistance in the shape of ex-gratia to martyrs of the State, Singh further rebuked BJP for stooping abysmally low by raising charity worth few lakhs for martyrs of the State. He said that the Saffron Party would create ruckus outside and inside the Assembly over killing of Indian soldiers but obnoxiously abdicated the issue of martyrs after coming to power. While demanding immediate announcement of adequate ex-gratia and benefits under SRO 43 for bereaved families of Kargil martyrs besides others, he said that brave hearts deserve financial assistance with honour and dignity, and not alms.
” The ex-gratia stood nowhere in comparison to their pious sacrifice but the blasphemous denial of the State Government to provide financial assistance to the national heroes would be vociferously agitated by the Panthers party”, infuriated Harsh added. He cautioned Jammu Ministers of dire consequences if immediate announcements of adequate ex-gratia to all martyrs of Jammu and compassionate appointments to the next of kin, are not made public.
