Guv, CM, others express grief over loss of lives

SRINAGAR: Governor N.N. Vohra, CM Mehbooba Mufti, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, former CMs Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad besides others have expressed grief over the loss of precious lives and property in the cloud burst that struck Thathri town of Doda district last night.
The Governor in his message conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of those killed, stating that he is saddened to learn about the damage to residential and commercial properties and a school, caused by the flash floods. He has advised urgent start of the work for the restoration of the damaged properties and provision of relief.
The Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti while expressing deep grief and sorrow directed the District administration to intensify rescue and rehabilitation operations, provide adequate hospital treatment to the injured and make arrangements of shelter, food and other facilities for the people affected by the cloudburst and consequent flashfloods.
The Chief Minister has asked the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary to rush to Doda and oversee the relief and rescue operations.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh while expressing sympathy with the bereaved families said that the necessary instructions have already been passed to the concerned to ensure proper rehabilitation of the persons whose property has been damaged due to the natural calamity.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo expressed solidarity with the families who lost their dear ones in this tragic incident. He said that directions have been passed to officials to start relief and rehabilitation work without any delay.
Former Chief Ministers Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls and wished speedy recovery to those injured in the natural calamity. They expressed solidarity with families who lost their dear ones in the tragedy and sought specialized treatment of all the injured.
Former CM Ghulam Nabi Azad who is also Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha expressed deep sorrow and grief on the devastation caused by heavy rains and cloudburst.
“My heart goes with the members of the families who have lost their kith and kins in the devastation and sympathize with the injured people” said Azad.
Azad has urged the State Government of J&K and the District Administration to immediately arrange for relief and rehabilitation measures for the people of Thathri who have suffered on account of destruction caused due to cloudburst and to provide adequate compensation to the families of those who have lost their lives and to those injured in the tragedy.
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Information, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation & Reconstruction and Parliamentary Affairs Veeri also expressed grief over the tragic death of six persons in a cloudburst in Thatri area of Doda district.
