Record 50 PoK guests arrive, 5 Kashmiris cross over to other side of LoC

Srinagar, Jul 3: Despite tension on the Line of Control (LoC) following ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops, highest number of 50 guests from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (POK) arrived here today, while five Kashmiris crossed over to the other side in the Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad.As many as 17 people returned to the other side of the LoC this evening at the Kaman Post in Uri sector, official sources here said. They said 50 PoK residents, including 15 women and 19 children, arrived at Kaman Post after crossing the Aman Setu peace bridge, on foot to meet their relatives, separated in 1947. This was the highest number of PoK guests during this year so far. The number of guests coming from PoK goes up in during the summer while it decreases considerably during winter months. Five Kashmiris, who had gone to PoK to meet their relatives in the previous buses, also returned home after completing their stay there. They included two women.
Drug peddler arrested with heroin in Jammu

Jammu, Jul 3: A drug peddler was today arrested with a contraband of heroin in this winter capital of the state. Police today arrested a drug peddler with 20 grams heroin from Cremation Ground in Shastri Nagar area of Ganghi Nagar. Police intercepted a Motorcycle and during a search, 20 grams of heroin was recovered from the possession the accused. “The accused was arrested on the spot while the vehicle as also been seized,” they added.
Vaccination programme for Hajj pilgrims notified

SHOPAIN, JUL 3: The Chief Medical Officer Shopian today notified the schedule for vaccination of the selected Haj pilgrims of the Shopian district. According to the notification, the pilgrims hailing from Shopian, Imam- Sahab, Herman and Keegam blocks shall be vaccinated at the Chief Medical Officer Shopian near Fruit Mandi Arhama Shopian on July 12from 10 am to 3 pm and the pilgrims from Zainapora, Chitragam shall be vaccinated at Sub- District Hospital Zainapora on July 12 from 10 am to 3 pm. Also the pilgrims from Keller block shall be vaccinated at the Sub District Hospital Keller on July 12, 2017 from 10 am to 3 pm.
National Lok Adalat on Jul 8

KUPWARA, JUL 3: According to Chairman, District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) who is also Principal, District & Sessions Judge, Kupwara a National Lok Adalat is held in his court complex Kupwara on July 08, 2017 at 10:30 am.
In this connection, seven benches have been constituted to settle various cases. The first bench shall be presided over by the Principal, District and Sessions Judge Kupwara Mohammad Abrahim Wani in his court chamber.
The interested litigants and parties are asked to approach the concerned benches for early settlement of the cases well in time.
DC inspects Mughal Road

SHOPIAN, JUL 3: District Development Commissioner, Shopian today inspected took stock of maintenance works especially at the slide prone areas on the Mughal Road from Shopian side.
The DDC was informed that required men and machinery has been put in place for slide clearance on the vital Road. The DDC was accompanied by Executive Engineer Mughal Road Division Shopian. He directed the concerned officer to repair the damaged portion of road surface found at any place within two weeks to ensure smooth flow of traffic. He further directed the Executive Engineer Mughal Road to repair the drains wherever they have been breached besides blacktopping and protection works be taken up at the earliest. The road was thrown open for traffic by April 23, 2017.
Special drive for enrolment of left-out electors

KUPWARA, JUL 3: According to District Election Officer (DEO) Kupwara, a special drive has been started from July 01, 2017 in connection with enrolment of left out electors in the Photo Electoral Rolls (PERs) of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in the district as on January1, 2017 (qualifying date under the directions of ECI, guidelines.) The (PER, 2017), has been kept available in the district at Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Handwara, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kupwara, SDM Lolab, Karnah, BLOs and MCs.
