JAMMU, JUN 5: World Environment Day was celebrated by J&K State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Jammu in collaboration with organization for Wildlife Conservation Fund by holding series of activities including practical demonstrations for “Source Waste Management”, the present day burning problem.
The event also witnessed display of thoughts by students by painting on theme of the day i.e. “How to connect with nature”.
Live demonstrations was presented for waste management in two streams i.e. Biodegradable and Non-biodegradable and compost making from biodegradable waste by Anuradha Scientist I/c MSW, J&K SPCB, Jammu.
The demonstration stressed on using environment friendly products to reduce waste generation at source.
Leaf plates were used for refreshment to discourage use of disposables while making pupils aware regarding harmful effects of later on health and environment.
Chairman, J&K SPCB, Ravi Kumar Kesar, appreciated the concept to raise awareness about waste management at Source and encouraged the future citizens to practically implement all these small things in life to share their responsibility towards waste management.
He further added that cleanliness is Godliness and everyone should contribute towards achieving target of “zero waste”
Regional Director, J&K SPCB Jammu, Shoukat Chowdhary, stressed that community participation is most important tool in making such initiatives successful.
He also apprised the chairman about the initiatives taken by the Board to encourage people participation for waste management on regular basis.
Event concluded with dissemination of certificates for excellent display of thoughts via paintings. Others present on the occasion were SPCB Officials, teachers from participating schools and members of Wild Life Conservation Fund.
